Abstract
One open problem in computer virus research is that the prevalence of computer virus has always been much lower in reality than that in theories. Instead of solving the problem from diverse virus mechanisms, this paper focuses on effects of spread environments, including complex network platforms from macroscopic perspective and spread resistances from microscopic perspective. By classifying virus platforms and resistances, and evaluating their respective impacts to virus propagation with virus spread dynamics, the paper reveals answers to the open problem comprehensively for the first time. Conclusions show that different network platforms curb the scale of virus propagation, and various resistances limit both speed and scale of virus propagation.
