Abstract
A new class of channel assignment methods are investigated in a power controlled, time slotted wireless communications system. In practical systems, there are constraints on the transmit power. Channel assignment algorithms that do not consider these constraints achieve smaller power control gains and result in increased co-channel interference and reduced system capacity. It is shown that assignment algorithms that employ users´ received signal strength provide significant gains in the presence of these constraints.
