Abstract :
The method of moments is used to study field distortions due to sensors, and results are presented for spherical and wire dipole sensors. The calculations show that it is possible to obtain reliable numerical results for sensors. Spherical sensors are able to measure the field strength at the center of the sphere without severe problems, even in the case of pulse fields. The local resolution of the sensor depends on the homogeneity of the investigated field and on the sphere radius. Sensors with external electrical conductors for measuring-data transmission and remote electrooptical converters can lead to problems which are caused by these electrical conductors, even if highly resistive conductors are used. The measurement of pulse fields by means of such sensor geometries is impossible in most cases
