Abstract :
Microcomponent assemblies composed of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, P-I-N photodetectors, and high frequency electrical connector and fiber pigtail and integrated circuit input/output channels are developed. Error free optical data transmission (defined as a bit error ratio below 1 × 10-12) with data rates at 25 Gb/s over 100 m of multimode graded index fiber is demonstrated with device temperatures of up to 85°C.
