Abstract :
In this paper, we address the problem of designing energy-efficient packet transmission schemes for mobile healthcare and telemedicine over wireless networks. For the energy evaluation, we consider both the radiated energy and the dissipated energy in the RF front-end of mobile terminals. We first propose a modified online lazy scheme for a system with constant symbol rate, and demonstrate its superiority with respect to both energy consumption and packet delay. Next, we show how energy can be minimized in a fixed bit duration system by adjusting the modulation level, symbol rate and pulse shaping roll-off factor.
