Abstract
This paper presents a modelling and a recursive estimation of model parameters for the strip temperature control at the heating furnace in a continuous annealing process. A newly developed mathematical model consists of a dynamic model and a static model. The dynamic model, the main model for the control, was derived from the heat balance equation, while the static model is a curve-fitting approximation of the calculated temperature obtained by heat transfer calculation. The model accuracy was evaluated with actual operation data and the unknown parameters of the model are estimated online. The control system was designed based on this plant model and has been successfully applied to several real plants
