Abstract :
To attempt a realistic appreciation of the level of bistatic interference a three dimensional mathematical model is presented. This model, called SCIMP (Scatter Impairment Model) has been developed over a number of years between Essex University and British Telecom. The model can consider real raincells to be coincident with the common volume of interference. The model has recently been enhanced to consider the effects of antenna sidelobes. The theory and the model are developed. The effects of real raincell orientation and antenna sidelobes are considered. The current CCIR model assumes that interference occurs for main beam to main beam intersection and this assumption is analysed by simulating a large number of geometries
