Abstract :
The benefits of using advanced static compensator are well established However, when they are implemented in any power system side effects may be found. This is the case of harmonic injection produced by both the parallel and series units. In this way, this paper contributes towards the investigation of the relationship between supply conditions and harmonic generation by the well known STATCOM compensator. To achieve this, using space vector control and instantaneous power theory, a model of a parallel advanced static VAr compensator (ASVC) is developed and implemented into a time domain SABER simulator. Then, a typical arrangement consisting of a commercial type of shunt compensator connected to an ideal and nonideal supply is simulated in relation to the overall system/compensator dynamic behaviour and harmonic generation
