Abstract
In this paper, the effects of interference averaging techniques (e.g. frequency hopping) and interference avoidance are compared for the downlink of a synchronized OFDMA system. The aim is to exploit the rare resource frequency, represented by the subchannels in an OFDMA system, by means of an optimal reuse. Quantitative performance results are given for exemplary scenarios. The results indicate some general guidelines in the design of systems beyond 3G
