Abstract
Summary form only given. We have developed a technique which combines the state preparation intrinsic to the g/sup (2)/ (/spl tau/) measurement with the external control of an intensity-step. We detect a first photon and before the system can oscillate back to steady state-which typically occurs in < 100 ns-the intensity of the system drive is changed.
