Abstract :
Neuroprostheses are aimed at improving or substituting parts of the injured nervous system. The quality of these systems can be improved by increasing the selectivity of the neural interfaces used to stimulate or to record the activity of specific subsets of axons. Hence selectivity is a key issues for successful applications. In this paper, the results of FEM simulations to investigate the performance of different electrodes inserted into the nerve trunk are provided. In particular, a FEM model based on anatomical data has been used. Preliminary guidelines on the design of intraneural interfaces have been gathered from the results of the simulations.
