Abstract
The prediction of a critical slowing down effect in four wave mixing has been made which leads to the concept of a constant gain-bandwidth product for four wave mixing. The effects have been observed in the photorefractive material BTO, and the experimental anomalies have been accounted for. These effects have also been demonstrated experimentally in a phase conjugate resonator
