Abstract
This paper describes the design of a new low-power wideband receiver for measuring the cosmic noise radiation absorption by the higher atmosphere. The system introduces a new receiver´s architecture and datapath processing to this field of science, exploiting the benefits of all-digital receiver technologies. The system scans accurate galactic positions in 0.1 MHz frequency hops in multi-frequency mode and reconfigurable wide bandwidths up to 1 MHz for accurate scientific results. The implementation of a single-stage dual- mode digital baseband translator alongside the removal of classical analogue control loops for stabilising the received power output provides a significant increase in performance over existing systems. The major aspects of hardware design and the advanced specifications introduced are thereby explained, yielding to a compact in size and customisable to different environments and experimental setups solution.
