Abstract :
Exploring the effects of land use pattern changes on soil loss is a frontier field in contemporary research in physical geography. Based on GIS and SEDEM, this paper took a catchment in Loess Platau of China as a case study, discussed the effects of land use pattern on soil loss. The results indicate only 0.08% sparse grassland changed into grassland in Majiagou watershed from 1995 to 2000, and the total river export has changed relatively. Not only the land use types but also the spatial distribution of land use type has important effects on soil erosion. The SEDEM is very sensitive to the tiny change of land use and can predict the effects of land use pattern change on soil loss well. In the further study, SEDEM can be tested for different area.
