Abstract :
Study on thermal environment in the atrium space with three different sections of rectangle, trapezium, and inverted trapezium was carried out under the condition of natural ventilation. The results of numerical simulation in winter and summer were presented respectively and the thermal properties were compared, explained and analyzed. The results show that atrium buildings with different sections have different thermal environment features on the condition of natural ventilation, and what kind of section should be chosen for the atrium building depends on the specific needs. Among them, atrium with rectangle section presents the most noticeable temperature dropping in summer and best effect of keeping warm in winter, so which is more suitable for buildings in the area with hot summer and cold winter. The research provides basis for the scientific design of building atrium, offers important reference to improve thermal comfort by natural ventilating to make building more green and energy efficiency.
