Abstract :
By using a gradient refractive index lens together with a Fourier plane array generator an extremely compact free-space fanout element is obtained. The authors have demonstrated this by the use of a computer generated binary fanout hologram. A 5×5 fanout pattern was obtained with a spot separation of 17 μm and a beam width of 5 μm. This was obtained within a volume of approximately 0.01 cm3 which makes it suitable for use within compact optoelectronic communication and processing systems
