Abstract :
Summary form only given. Photonic-band-gap (PBG) waveguides that consist of line defects in photonic crystals having waveguiding modes within PBG are receiving much attention. Although their uniqueness has been theoretically studied, experimental works to clarify their waveguiding nature for fabricated PBG waveguides have been still limited. We report experimental investigation for transmission characteristics of various types of PBG waveguides in 2D photonic crystal slabs. Our results show their unique cutoff property and extremely large group-velocity dispersion.
