Abstract :
This paper presents a low cost modular instrumentation system and its application to a marine environment to implement a system that controls the instrumentation used onboard research vessels. A GPIB interface board using VLSI specialized integrated circuits and several middle-capabilities programmable instrument boards have been designed to provide a complete and versatile instrument system using a support bus to interconnect the different module-instrument. The instrument is connected to the net and sends the measurements to a specific UDP port where can be checked by a supervisor program. The final goal is to implement a system that will enable the technical staff on board to have a complete control over the data acquisition and the instruments themselves
