Abstract
This paper describes the development of brake control systems over the years from the days of vacuum brake control using large components that are slow to react, to the intelligent data bus controlled systems of today with fully integrated diagnostic features. It includes examples of the control architectures used on several of the trains and multiple units used on today´s rail network and those proposed for future stock.
