Abstract :
Recently, several authors presented numerical Floquet expansions for the purpose of calculating the SAW/LSAW phase velocity in a periodic grating. Such numerical approaches often require excessive computation time and do not directly lend themselves to the analysis of SAW devices within the coupling-of-modes (COM) formalism. An analytic approach has been developed which offers efficient evaluation and direct application to the analysis of SAW devices (LSAWs as a whole are not considered) within the COM formalism. Both the analytic solutions as well as their application to COM analysis of SAW gratings and transducers are presented. To demonstrate the approach, YZ LiNbO3 is considered. The dispersion diagram, phase velocity, and COM analysis of a grating are presented for comparison with previous results
