Abstract
In the loess plateau of China, the yield varies from cropland to cropland. It is very important for the agriculture of China that monitoring the changes of cropland in different years is made with remote sensing information. This is an introduction to the method of classifying high medium and low yield croplands by remote sensing and GIS, which is the result of a key project of The Scientific and Industry Technology Committee of National Defense. Special information related to high, medium and low yield cropland was compounded with TM data. The development of the method of compound hierarchy classification improved the accuracy of remote sensing classification greatly
