Abstract
Our aim is to study the acousto-optic detection of Bleustein-Gulyaev (BG) surface acoustic waves (SAW) using a laser probe. The interaction of BG waves with light propagating in the SAW sagittal plane is investigated theoretically for crystals of zinc oxide (ZnO), cadmium sulphide (CdS) and bismuth germanium oxide (BGO) versus the angle between the light wave vector and the crystal depth direction (along which the SAW attenuates). The experimental results obtained with ZnO, CdS and BGO crystals are reported and compared to the above theory
