Abstract :
A novel technique to estimate the electric parameters of a synchronous generator from on-line measurements with detailed representation of damper windings is presented in this paper. Usually damper winding dynamics in synchronous generator parameter estimation are neglected, but their affect is important particularly when considering subtransient studies for a single generator. The main obstacle in estimating the electric parameters is that damper winding currents are not available for measurement. To overcome this problem, the proposed algorithm has two steps. In the first step, the synchronous machine equations in the steady state condition are considerd where the damper currents can be neglected. In this step the electric parameters of the stator are estimsted. In the second step, a current_estimator is designed to estimate the equivalent current of the dampers on the d and q axes, from which the parameters of field and damper windings are estimated. Simulation results show very good estimate of the electric parameters of an 8th order synchronous generator model.
