Abstract
Summary form only given. We theoretically discuss the giant nonlinearities of semiconductor microcavities in the strong exciton-photon coupling regime. Within a model of interacting bosons, we describe the polariton nonlinear dynamics in the case of resonant excitation. The theory treats polariton parametric amplification, luminescence, oscillation, the role of anomalous pair correlations and the appearance of peculiar collective modes. Potential applications involving long-lived coherence and ultrafast control are also discussed.
