Abstract
China is one of the largest producers, consumers and importers of oilseeds and edibles oils in the world. Since the 21th century, China´s edibles oils industry has been growing drastically, spatial structural has been changing considerably. The characteristics of the location, movement of edibles oils sector are summarized in this paper. Empirical models are developed and estimated to identify economic determinants of edibles oils establishment growth between 2000 and 2009. Signification agglomeration diseconomies are found to exist at province level. Seaport, market accession and agglomeration diseconomies are the key factors determining spatial structure of China´s edibles oils industry between 2000 and 2009. The ability of to attract edibles oils processor to create local employment opportunities and market outlet for farmers varies considerably across provinces.
