Abstract
A software prediction tool for mobile radio channel impulse response estimation is presented. The simulation model is based on the well known radar equation for reflection from hillsides which can be treated as rough surfaces and therefore scattering the power incoherently. In spite of the simplicity of the model agreements within a few dB between simulated and measured impulse responses at 980 MHz vertical polarisation are observed for propagation in a mixed mountain-sea environment. Comparison of simulated and measured values of the useful parameters of delay spread and interference ratio, defined for digital mobile communication transmission, results in deviation of less than 10% and 2 dB respectively in most cases, where the measurements were performed in the mountainous Faroe Islands
