Abstract
A synchronous parallel implementation of a two-dimensional median filtering algorithm is presented. Through this implementation, the effectiveness of a novel data partitioning scheme that balances the work-load distribution among the different processors of a multiprocessor system is demonstrated. The proposed data partitioning scheme has reduced the idling time of the processors at synchronization points for algorithms that depend on data characteristics which, as in typical images, could differ considerably from region to region.<>
