Abstract :
This project links two research areas: automatic incident detection (AID) with the provision of diversion route advice to traffic operators using MOLA (motorway online advisor) which was originally developed as a decision support system for tactical traffic control. This paper describes the development of a unique algorithm and considers the issues of detection rate, false alarm rate and time to detection with respect to the application, namely MOLA
