Abstract
This investigation focuses on a number of the key media types and their medium access protocols. An analysis of the performance of the management protocols during the process of network initialisation is pursued. Simulation techniques are employed to achieve the performance results and a modelling approach which allows the system to be scaled easily to model high populations of devices is explained. The management protocols are modelled by their Finite State Machine (FSM) representation so that realistic traffic patterns during initialisation are produced
