Abstract
In this paper, a parameter analysis of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) synchronous motor is presented. After some preliminary design considerations, based on an analytical model, the study is devoted to the evaluation of machine performance as main torque and torque ripple through finite element analysis. A validation of the calculation procedure is performed through experimental results on a prototype motor. An optimisation procedure based on genetic algorithms has been applied and the optimised configuration is presented.
