Abstract :
Relationships between resource requirements for WDM systems are investigated in terms of the optimal design of a lightwave network. The multihop network with a fixed number of transceivers is chosen as the prototype. A model is formulated with a heuristic algorithm for design of the virtual network topology and for routing paths in order to reflect the traffic patterns. Examples of application for different patterns and corresponding near-optimal network designs are given
