Abstract
New hop-timing epoch estimation schemes for random frequency-hopping signals are considered which employ a coarsely channelized pre-processor in order to suppress the frequency and phase dependence of the hopping signal. Linear and nonlinear combination of channel outputs are explored and compared. Performance evaluation via extensive computer simulations, along with analytical lower-bounds supporting them are presented. Comparisons with existing optimal and sub-optimal systems are made
