Abstract
Optical switches are likely to play an important role in WDM networks for use in network protection. For undersea networks it is essential that the devices are compact and hence thermally stable. Compact optical switches using spatial-light modulators can be implemented using a diffractive lens. In this paper we investigate the performance implications of such a switch architecture
