Abstract
The paper describes several aspects to specific modelling issues that can arise when designing brushless PM motors with either ring or surface magnets. These include how to model ring magnets, the affects of positioning variation of surface magnets on the cogging torque and finally the motor performance with variations of skew and rotor positioning sensors.
