Abstract
With the emerging interest in using ATM for wireless transmissions in recent years, there is an urgent need to consider the impact of wireless links on ATM. Cell delineation (CD) and cell receiving modes are two key processes at the receiving system. This paper analyzes the performance of the ATM CD process by applying the probability generating function obtained by the generalized state transition diagram to it, and point out the survivability of the CD process recommended by ITU-T at various bit error ratios. Then this paper also analyzes the cell error ratio at different HEC modes, i.e. correction and/or detection modes, and presents advice on how to adopt the HEC modes and whether to protect the cell header with more powerful error correcting codes in the wireless environment
