Abstract :
This paper presents preliminary analyses of the Ku-band beacon signals received in Singapore for 1993, together with the rainfall rate data. Some fade characteristics are discussed in detail to determine the effects of rain fading on various Ku-band Earth-space satellite services. The results of the analyses suggest that the measured attenuation is higher than the values predicted by ITU-R Rec 618-3 (1994), CCIR Rep 564-4 (1990) and Rep 564-3 (1986), with the last giving a better estimate than the former two reports. The cumulative distribution of rainfall rate shows that Singapore is located between ITU-R rain regions P and N
