Abstract
The static transfer switch is a device used to protect loads against poor power quality. Despite a number of commercial installations, little has been published in the public domain on its detailed operating characteristics. This paper addresses this deficit and in addition describes a computationally efficient detection algorithm for power quality disturbances (sags), which uses less computational effort than previously suggested algorithms.
