Abstract :
It might be desirable for a future optical network to be more efficient, robust, and reconfigurable. This paper will highlight three main functionalities that can be decisively impacted by photonic integration: (a) advanced modulation formats, (b) heterogeneous networking, and (c) optical performance monitoring.
