Abstract
The telecommunication networks are evolving towards an open, distributed and standardized computing environment with the inosculation of computer and telecommunication technologies. Current intelligent network systems, however, face some inevitable problems during this evolution. Following an analysis of the shortcomings of existing IN, the paper explores the potential new generation of IN, mobile agent-based distributed IN. The network architecture and key technologies are proposed. A phased evolution strategy with interworking functionality is elaborated and a novel service scenario is introduced
