  • Abstract
Up-to-day development of low power collector machines (LCM) is characterized, on the one hand by wide application and, on the other hand by slow improvement. The main researches conducted in this field involve increasing of commutation stability of the brush collector knot. It could be very effective if it does not demand cardinal changes of construction elements and technological processes of manufacturing. One of the main problems of analysis of commutation process is elucidation of reasons of sparking between a brush and a collector. Sparking could be caused by several reasons varied in nature: mechanical or electrical. The paper discusses several reasons for this. The use of armature damper windings is found to positively affect the process of commutation and exploitation of the machine
