Abstract
Discusses how it is quite helpful to model a rigid mechanical object not just by an I-type element, but by a multiport of which some ports are also of the C-type. This alternative representation emphasizes the role of the displacement variable in mechanical systems and allows easier modeling of mechanisms or colliding objects and easier access to position information for display of results and animation
