  • Abstract
Any device with nonlinear characteristics that drives their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may be responsible for injecting harmonic currents and voltages into the electrical system. This paper describes the modeling and simulation of an aircraft electrical system. The simulation is done by using the MicroTran software program and the harmonic results of simulation are compared with the results obtained in the laboratory and field testing. A parallel modeling technique is used for AC and DC loads on the system. The third harmonic is dominant in the laboratory results, but voltage harmonics is within the threshold limit whereas, the current harmonics are beyond the threshold limit. These harmonic currents can excite resonant circuits causing them to “ring” and produce large oscillating currents. These currents can be trapped by application of appropriate filter design
