Abstract
This paper follows a project to enhance the quality of supply delivered by a 33 kV overhead line network in the south-east of England. In this instance, a network automation approach was selected-once the technical challenges could be overcome, this solution offered a highly cost-effective means of improving network performance. When a fault occurs, the scheme rapidly localises and disconnects the faulted section of network and automatically restores supplies to customers.
