Abstract
With the increased pressures on engineers to manage plant in a reliable cost conscious manner along with the increased pressures imposed by the new operating regulations-NETA, early detection of possible defects occurring in service and the prevention of these causing catastrophic failure are paramount. To achieve effective condition assessment and plant management, the author examines what are the factors effecting partial discharge and what options are available to the new bread of engineer, the "asset manager" and how do they best achieve this new role?.
