Abstract
In practice, there is no available general relationship between the measurable transferred energy into the insulation of a test object and the damaging energy inside the partial discharge (PD) afflicted void. One of the reasons is that there is no applicable general model from which such a relationship can be concluded. This paper sheds light on a new method for determining generally the required energy relationship based on a mathematical model for a modified extended equivalent circuit of a PD afflicted solid insulation. The relationship can be obtained from a simulated PD signal. For simplicity and clarity a solid insulation bulk with only one void which has one PD source is considered
