Abstract :
This tutorial deals with the behaviour of matter upon irradiation by optical fields generated using intense femtosecond laser pulses whose magnitude matches the Coulombic field within atoms and molecules. We shall discuss the effect such intense laser light has on matter, and the effect that matter has on such light.
