Abstract :
A synchronous motor whose speed is twice the speed of the rotating field is described. Complete and approximate mathematical models are deduced for this machine, and the results of the analysis concerning steady-state and transient operations are presented. Two methods are described for the stabilization of such a motor. In the first one, an inverter feeds one of the windings; in the second one, an auxiliary winding is used, with a rating power much smaller than the power of the main windings. In both cases the motor is stable: analytical and computational results of steady-state and transient operations are presented. Finally, technical and economical comparisons between this motor (with the relevant solutions for the stabilization) and a conventional motor are discussed.<>
