Abstract
For optimal performance in electrical drives with synchronous machines it is necessary that the variation of the machine parameters are known by the control system. Several of these parameters are not constants, like resistances that are temperature and frequency dependent or inductances that are saturation dependent. Here, it is shown that unconventional and simplifying methods can be used successfully to introduce new perspectives on saturation modelling, a very simple flux-torque and power factor control algorithm, a robust and simple flux estimation technique and an intelligent rotor position detection. Both simulations and measurements support the proposed theories. It is the opinion of the author that this material adds a new and useful perspective to the common knowledge on electric drive control
