Abstract :
This paper examines the computational analysis and the performance of a 3.5 MW synchronous motor driven with a six pulse cycloconverter. The results detailed in this paper identify the errors that arise due to simplification of the modelling process. The results obtained from this computer model are also compared with those obtained with the analytical approach of Pelly (1971). The system parameters examined in this paper include interbridge changeover delay, commutation overlap within the converter, supply reactance and converter decoupling reactance. System characteristics that are investigated include supply harmonic voltages, the currents injected into the supply network, and converter output harmonic voltages
