Abstract
Summary form only given as follows. It is shown in this presentation that when the thin dielectric shell coating a thin-wire antenna is modelled with equivalent volume polarization currents, the problem essentially becomes that of evaluating the electric field inside the dielectric shell. After a careful examination of the solutions available in the open literature for the problem, this paper reveals that the approximations provided for the electric field of interest are characterized by certain avoidable restrictions. Indeed, it is demonstrated here that the solution to the problem derives from an application of the time-harmonic equation of current continuity, through which the charge distribution responsible for the electric field is obtained. After a succinct presentation of the theory, some representative results for linear thin-wire antennas and circular-loop antennas coated with thin dielectric shells are presented.
